Job Title: Fire Equipment Technician

Summary:

Inspects, repairs and maintains fire safety equipment and systems in accordance with applicable fire codes. Working conditions include industrial plants, refineries, chemical plants and oil and gas operating units.

Duties:

• Inspects, repairs and tests fire extinguishers using hand tools, hydrostatic test equipment and monitoring devices.

• Inspects halon, water based and stove hood systems

• Dismantles extinguishers and examines mechanical parts, extinguishing agents and expelling means; replaces worn or damaged parts

• Cleans extinguishers and recharges them with approved materials

• Inspects, tests and repairs systems such as smoke detectors, sprinklers and dry standpipe systems and pull systems and alarm systems

• Maintains records of all inspections, tests, repairs and remodeling of extinguishing systems

• Assists in safety inspections

• Assists with building inspections, investigating fires, evaluating fire hazards and hazardous materials is required

• Advises internal clients on the needs of use and types of fire extinguishers

• May coordinate inspection activities with HSE departments

Knowledge, skill and abilities: • Knowledge of inspection, repair, maintenance and testing techniques for the fire safety equipment and systems • Skills in the inspection, repair, maintenance and testing techniques for the fire safety equipment and systems

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• This is a journey-level position responsible for inspecting more complex fire safety equipment and systems, including halon and stove hood systems

• Ten years of experience in the inspection, repair and maintenance of the fire safety equipment and systems; or Associates degree in Fire Safety or Science and three years of experience in the inspection, repair and maintenance of fire safety equipment and systems; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and training have been achieved

 

Required certifications:

Texas State Fire Alarm License, Texas State Fire Extinguisher License-A, NICETII-Special Hazards, NICIT-Inspection & testing of Water-Based Systems, NICET II Fire Alarm
